Congratulations to the Tawatinaw Valley Freeriders!
On December 19 and 20, 2009 six members of the Tawatinaw Valley Freeriders took part in a Freestyle Skiing competition at Marmot Basin in Jasper. The competition was held to determine who would qualify, in each of 8 zones, to take part in the Alberta Winter Games February 4 - 7, 2010 in the Lakeland Region. The competition included two events; moguls and slopestyle. Moguls involves skiing down a mogul run that includes two jumps and doing a different trick off each jump. Moguls is a timed event. Slopestyle involves hitting a jump (larger than the moguls jump) off which the athlete performs a trick and then skiing through a terrain park and hitting two of the features. In this case the terrain park features were rails and boxes. In each event the athlete does two runs and the score from their best run is taken.
All six of our athletes qualified and will be taking part in the Alberta Winter Games representing zone 6.
The qualifier was held very early in the season due to the date of the Alberta Winter Games being pushed to the beginning of February. The Alberta Winter Games are usually later in February but are being held earlier because of the Olympics mid-Feb in Vancouver.
Our regular training season begins January 9th at Tawatinaw and runs through March 20th. It is not too late for people to register for our programs. We offer the RBC Jumps and Bumps program for 6 - 12 year olds and Freeriders program for skiers 12 years and older.
